I think it's fun when stuff like this arises. I like to see how everyone views things so differently. So share... will your children be opted out? Just curious. In case you are too. Ours will not.
Ours will not be opting out. If he is only encouraging to be good students great. If not our kids know what we believe and I will watch the video too so we can discuss it. It's not like one video can ruin them and keep them from listening to their parents.
I also have taught them that though we do not agree with his agenda, he is our president and we are respectful to him.
My response is sort of like Steph's. If there ever was a president who could influence our youth to do good things, it would be this one. Kids listen to him. So if he wants to tell my kids to stay in school and get good grades and go to college, then I will let him. I also have great respect for the office of the president if not necessarily the person.
The important thing is that we are talking about this and being aware of what is going on. I think the backlash has been a great thing because everyone is more aware. If it sounds anything like propaganda then you can bet my kids won't listen to it next time.
That YouTube video with all the actors on it was a scary one though. We are not "servants" of our president--elected leaders are public servants, they serve the people.
NOT opting out. People need to be aware of the leaders of this country and our leaders need to be respected, even if we do not agree with them. As families, we should have the greatest influence over our children and if we don't, that's the fault, I feel, of the family. My feelings are, it all depends on Obama's intentions. Is he doing it for good purposes...to really push kids to strive for education....OR is he doing it to be seen and heard and gain favor over young minds?? There are few people who know his true intentions. So, I am left only to trust that he has good intentions and give him the benefit of the doubt. There's my 2 cents...or 3.
