Okay, so I started running again. Okay, wait. Let me rephrase that. I started jogging. I think that's a better term since most of you could probably walk faster than I run. But this time there is no expensive gym membership involved. Which means I am running in the hood. I haven't ever really done that. While I love it. I truly do. My knees are really hurting. Richard says it's because of the elements. I told him if he means the elements of my big O body coming down on my knees then he's probably right. What am I doing wrong?
To all of my Marathon, 1/2 marathon, and 5k running friends please don't laugh at what I'm about to confess. Because it is good for me. Today I ran a mile non-stop. I was so proud of myself, and probably could have gone longer. But I was afraid my knee was going to break. Seriously, don't laugh. My short term goal is 2 miles. I'm hoping by the end of the year. Me and Richard have been talking about doing a 5K or something small to start out. What do you guys think of matching outfits for us? New York City, here we come!

Lori- I think it's awesome that you're running!! My knees used to hurt me too, and Matthew told me it was my shoes. They weren't right for my foot type. So, I got the right shoes, and my knees no longer hurt. You should look into that..?
I was going to mention shoes too. Do you have another pair you could try? How old are your shoes? I had the same problem, bad knee pain, and I just wore another pair of shoes one day and it went away. I think the "rule" is that you should get a new pair of running shoes once a year. I don't, but I should! Also, if you're an early riser, there is a group of women in our stake that meet at the stake center at 5:15am. They're really fun!
Good for you Lori. You are inspiring. I dream about running everyday. I use to run everyday when I was a teen but I never manage to get myself to take the time anymore. It's all about choices I guess. Someday.
Way to go!! I know a place called the runner's den does custom fittibg for your shoes and it is free when you get shoes from them. Keep it up, what an accomplishment.
Ben played in a leaugue in Mesa too, but then this last season he did one in peoria. Next time they sign up, I'll tell Ben to let Richard know! Also yeah the white tanks was so easy. I wouldn't even call it hiking. It was like a mile or so- to the "waterfall" and back. It's pretty much paved too.
BTW, good job with running/jogging. It's so hard to get motivated to do that, so good for you!
The "one miler" is the hardest. You are fantastic. Way to go!
I did a half marathon (on my own) while training for a full marathon. 3 weeks before the race, my knee got really messed up and I was unable to run.
Alternate running with weights to build knee strength. That's what helped me. Running is the hardest sport on the body. Take care of those knees girl! Ice, stretch ibuprofen, rest.
You rock.
ps- love the blog!
A mile??? When you hit ten, then I might take you seriously. Your knees hurt because you are OLD. Hey, someone had to tell you the truth.
In all seriousness, I am proud of you. It's an accomplishment just to be motivated and get out there and do it!!! But, I have to say, I get chills when I hear of women running by themselves or even with one other person. I had a near abduction story with my neighbor when we ran together that has traumatized me for life. I suck and have to run on my treadmill.
