I am not much of a political activist. I don't even really know if I am saying that right? The only time I have ever voted was the last presidential election. With that confession out of the way I wanted to add this.
REGISTER TO VOTE!My testimony over our power to vote has grown immensely. One of our first weeks in our new ward a women gave a talk on it. I could feel the spirit so strong. It boils down to this.
"We believe that governments were instituted of God for the benefit of man; and that he holds men accountable for their acts in relation to them, both in making laws and administering them, for the good and safety of society. … such as will administer the law in equity and justice should be sought for and upheld by the voice of the people. …” (D&C 134:1, 3.)It never had dawned on me before that we will be held accountable for if, and how we vote. Elder M. Russell Ballard said this "So the Church is politically neutral, but we teach our people that it’s our duty to seek out and find good honest men and women of value, with values and virtue and honestly and integrity and encourage them to run for office and then to use their agency to vote for whomever they choose."
So many of you remember my rant on charter schools. I wasn't trying to be a hatter. It was just really bothering me. I am glad I wasn't the only one who felt that way. It turns out one of my good friends is running for school board. Jennifer Tanner. I want to spread the word. Because I truly feel she can make a difference in this school district. She recently did a questionnaire for the Arizona Republic which is set to run sometime before the election. I just wanted to share it with you early so you could get informed. I absolutely got chills when reading it. I LOVE all of her answers my favorite where
- What character trait best serves a public official?
- What should your district do if anything to compete with charter schools, private schools, and neighboring school districts? What should your district do to boost student enrollment?
Dead on answers!
So the deadline to register to vote in AZ is Oct 6. Why wait do it today by clicking here. It is super simple.

Ok, THAT made me cry. And you know me...I try to crack a smile out of anything. Thank you so much for your kind words, and above all encouraging everyone to vote. It is such a priviledge that we take for granted.
Go Jen! Great post Lori.
