Last week I was laying in bed. Being a bum. Totally one of my favorites. Although it only lasted about 15 minutes. Anyways, Jace climbed up next to me with the scriptures. He told me He was going to "read a stripture," I was totally ready. Curious to see if he had soaked in any of our scripture reading. He opened the book thumbed through it for a few seconds. Then proceeded to tell me about when Jesus cut all the bad guys arms off. I couldn't help but chuckle. I then asked him if he meant "Ammon who cut all the bad guys arms off"? He shook his head yes, then said "with a sword!" While he made these slashing back and forth movements with his arms. It was so funny.
Me and Richard have been taking turns reading stories out of the scriptures. Some from the bible, mostly from the book of Mormon. We have started reading are favorites first. Can you guess which one he had read the night before. It has actually been an effective way of reading to our kids. We read the stories from the scriptures then we paraphrase them. I think this has kept our kids interested. Instead of just reading straight through. I don't know why we didn't think of it before. What helps keep your kids interesed?

We read while they are finishing dinner so their mouths are full and their hands are busy. They pay attention much better and then we have great dinner conversations. Also then our kids don't associate scriptures with going to bed, and sometimes that gives it a negative feeling with whining and grouchiness. We also alternate between the readers and the actual scriptures so we reach all the kids.
We like to act out every scene. It gets pretty intense with the beheading.
Actually, I love when the kids are in the phase when they read too. I swear it helps them to learn how to read faster and more precise.
